Rahmer and Rain dominate 2008 Pennsylvania 410 Speedweek
Fred Rahmer is no stranger to PA Speedweek titles. Coming into the 2008 Speedweek he had mounted 10 Speedweek wins. He won his 11th title in dominating fashion by winning 2 of the 5 events. He also mounted 4 top 5 finishes with and average finishing position of 6th. He was fast all week with 4 fast times and 1 heat win.
Rahmer started off the week with a strong 3rd place finish at Lincoln Speedway. The team traveled to Bedford Speedway for round 2 but Mother Nature forced 2 cancellations at the track. It was off to Grandview Speedway on Tuesday where Rahmer found victory lane for the first time in the week. The race teams went south of the border for Wednesday’s race at Hagerstown Speedway. Rahmer brought home a 2nd place finish in the event. Rain won at Port Royal on Thursday night, forcing yet another cancellation. It was much of the same at Williams Grove on the 4th of July. Finally the rain cleared and the teams went back to Port Royal where mechanical problems gave Rahmer his worst finish of the week of 22nd. It was finale time at Selinsgrove and Rahmer dominated the entire night by getting the fast time and winning the event.
Rahmer’s dominance wasn’t the only headline of the week. Rain managed to force the cancellation of 3 of the Speedweek events. This was bad news for the competition. Most notably is young driver Cody Darrah who finished 2nd in points, 109 points behind Rahmer. The young driver from PA was tearing up the tracks all week with 1 win, 2 top 5’s and 5 top 10’s. Darrah matched Rahmer’s average finishing position with 6th. Heading into the finale at Selinsgrove Darrah was hot off his win from the night before. The Speedweek title was up in the air but Rahmer was determined to get his 11th title and in the end he held off the young driver. |
