Gordon Holds Off McFarland, Wins Race2Recovery 225
Northern champ makes it two in a row
By: Paul Warner
Newton, Iowa—He’s won tons of races over the years. He has four divisional titles and one national title already. But what Benny Gordon is doing this season is beyond belief—even to the unapologetically-brazen driver himself.
“Can you believe that?” Gordon asked after taking his sixth victory of the season in the Race2Recovery 225 presented by NAPA Auto Parts and Diamond Vogel at Iowa Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 20. “I’ve won at a lot of short tracks, but you can put those in the same category. I’ve led some laps and run second on some mile-and-a-half tracks before, but I’ve never won on a big track until tonight. This ranks right up there with the biggest wins of my career.”read more...

“4-CROWN” TRIUMPH IS SWEET FOR BRAD
Rossburg, OH…….Brad Sweet of Grass Valley, Calif. led all 30 laps to win Saturday night’s “4-Crown Nationals” USAC National Sprint race at the Eldora Speedway. Sweet and his Mopar/Team ASE JEI/Speedway Mopar were trailed at the finish by Mike Brecht, Jerry Coons Jr., Dickie Gaines and Jesse Hockett. Series point leader Levi Jones finished sixth but saw his point lead slip to just nine points over Coons going into the “Winchester Oldtimers Weekend” race September 28 at Winchester (Ind.) YELEY TAKES ELDORA MIDGET THRILLER
Rossburg, OH…….J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. won Saturday night’s 25-lap “4-Crown Nationals” USAC Mopar National Midget race at the Eldora Speedway, outracing Dave Darland and Brad Sweet in one of the most spectacular “4-Crown” features ever! Yeley led the first 11 laps in his Klatt Enterprises Ford Racing Beast/Easslinger Ford, before Ricky Stenhouse Jr. sailed past both J.J. and Darland to assume command. Stenhouse then ran away from the field but on lap 17 tangled with Brad Kuhn while lapping him. After restarting last, Stenhouse began working his way back through the field but on lap 20 he flipped end-over-end on the backstretch and was transported to Wayne Hospital in Greenville, Ohio. Yeley led the final nine laps despite constant pressure from Darland. Following the third-place Sweet were Brady Bacon and Cole Whitt. Series point leader Tracy Hines flipped on lap three but escaped injury.click here for the USAC Midget Series Page... |
Kimmel Comes Home for Salem Victory Parade
SALEM IN (9-13-08) – ARCA RE/MAX Series veteran Frank Kimmel gave his hometown fans exactly what they came to see – a victory in the Eddie Gilstrap Motors 200 by Advance Auto Parts Saturday night at Salem Speedway.
However, it turned out to be much more than just another win for the local Clarksville, Indiana legend.
“This one’s pretty emotional,” said Kimmel in victory lane. “It’s been more than four years since we’ve won here, and to do it here at home means more than I can say. It’s also my dad’s birthday; he turned 80 today, so this one’s for him. This could not have played out any better for the Kimmel Racing team. We’ve been fortunate to win a lot of races, but this one ranks up there as one of the best – maybe the best.”read more...

Joey King Wins World Cup 2008
8/31/2008 (Cedar Rapids, IA)
The fans in Odessa, MO at the I-70 Speedway saw quite an impressive performance from Silvis, Illinois’ Joey King. King used the inversion of the top 6 qualifiers to put his Adrian Carriers, Gett Industries, Dan Ash Trucking Chevrolet on the pole and lead from wire to wire to capture his first victory of the 2008 season in the World Cup 100.
King took off from the drop of the green flag at I-70 and began to boast an impressive lead through the first portion of the 100 lap affair. Early caution flags mired the beginning of the event, however, keeping the field within striking distance of King‘s machine. Third place driver Joey Eggleston hit the turn four concrete hard and was one of numerous front runners to find trouble in the early going. Jack Smith, while running second, saw his night spoiled by mechanical issues as well as point leader Eddie Hoffman. read more...

Scott Speed Proves He Has More Than Just a Fast Name
August 8, 2008
By: The Rubber Racer
Just like something out of the Disney movie Cars, a hot shoe with a fast name has surfaced on the NASCAR scene. He’s not your typical American stock car driver. He likes to get pedicures and he dresses quite European. He looks like he would still fit in on the paddock at Monte Carlo or lying on a yacht with Kimi Raikkonen. But does his style really matter? This young man can straight up drive a stock car. Unlike much of his open wheel predecessors Speed has shown promise immediately. In his very first ARCA/ReMax series start at Talladega Superspeedway in October of 2007, Speed finished with a resounding 7th place. Dario Franchitti finished in 17th at the very same race. read more...
